As an answer to the boring, mass-produced eyewear coming out in the early 2010s, French designer Jérôme Mage decided to launch his Jacques Marie Mage brand. Taking classic styles worn by the likes of Johnny Cash and Enzo Ferrari, JMM created expressive shades in limited-edition drops that made people excited about sunglasses again. They’ve since become cult favorites with increasing mainstream appeal that’s made them second to none in the category.
In addition to style icons, JMM has been fascinated by Stanley Kubrick’s work. Past releases included the beta-titanium Full Metal Jacket model and the Heywood silhouette nodding to 2001: A Space Odyssey.
For its latest homage, JMM tackles what some consider Kubrick’s greatest achievement with two sunglasses inspired by The Shining.

Two Distinct Personalities
The collection splits into contrasting expressions. The Torrance takes its name from the film’s protagonist, Jack Torrance (played by Jack Nicholson), channeling his more composed aesthetic prior to devolving into insanity — a ’70s rectangular frame with a sculptural beveled brow and JMM’s signature sterling silver arrowhead front pins. Named after the two young girls who haunt the Overlook Hotel, The Twins flip the script with an oversized butterfly shape and dramatically curved temples that reference arguably the film’s most memorable figures.

Both feature 10mm cured cellulose acetate with double-laminated temples (clear exterior, polished interior), but the dimensions differ. The Torrance at 144mm suits medium faces while the Twins stretch to 153mm. Exposed wirecores, custom barrel hinges, and spur-shaped rivets all get plated in silver palladium, with Armorlite 6-base lenses featuring anti-reflective treatment.

The Full Package
The expected build quality comes courtesy of JMM’s 300-step Fukui production process involving nearly 100 artisans, but the packaging elevates things further. Each model comes in a monograph box set that includes a hard case, a Room 237 cleaning cloth, a custom stainless steel screwdriver with burgundy enamel details, and a chapbook with exclusive film imagery. Letterpress authenticity cards with handwritten edition numbers are included as well.
