Goldwin has long been known for its catalog of functional skiwear, but its experimental new sub-line is taking a turn for the technical. The Japanese outfitter announced its experimental Goldwin 0 platform earlier this year and has just unraveled the first collection.
Primarily comprised of minimalist outerwear, the new releases include GORE-TEX jackets and technical knitwear. Starting with the former, the GORE-TEX 3L Shell Jacket is composed of 75 denier recycled polyester that’s as durable as skiwear. It’s rounded out with underarm ventilation for breathability and a quartet of waterproof zippers for functionality. Next, the Ski Sweater is perfect for this time of year and serves as an all-around showcase of Goldwin’s high-level garment engineering. The sweater is naturally technical, boasting a full-on New Zealand wool makeup that offers moisture-wicking, antibacterial, and deodorizing properties.
Another unique sweater in the collection is aptly-named Knit Top, which is knit from wool, chenille yarn, and, most interestingly, Spiber’s Brewed Protein, a synthetic material derived from glucose and sucrose. In addition to these three premium pieces, Goldwin 0’s inaugural drop consists of the rain-resistant 3L Long Coat, the insulated (but lightweight) Padded Interliner Jacket, and the 3L Shell Jacket made of over 50% Brewed Protein. Outerwear aside, there are five different trouser iterations, highlighted by the weather-ready GORE-TEX 3L Shell Trousers and enviously cozy Knit Trousers. Lastly, the collection also features a windproof balaclava with a water-repellent shell that can be used as a hood, neck warmer, or mask, deeming it impressively versatile.
