Crocs Just Built Their Most Trail-Ready Clog with Go-Anywhere Rubber Traction

Crocs have been proving time and time again that they can, in fact, be stylish. The former (and, depending on who you talk to, current) ugly king has managed to impress us a couple of times in the last year or so. We saw them partner with G-SHOCK for a glow-in-the-dark watch/shoe combo unit that featured very few holes, and then there was the coastal boot drop with END. Clothing and And Wander.

However, the brand’s latest release is not a collab at all, and just might be the coolest-looking Crocs we’ve seen yet.

Gum Sole Meets Foam Clog

Built on the outdoor-focused Echo series, the Echo Gum RO Clog takes everything we loved about the original and adds a full rubber outsole — and it’s about time. When Crocs first introduced the Echo collection back in 2022 for their 20th anniversary, the exoskeletal design was fairly innovative but we still had all-foam construction. We get it. The brand’s signature style was merely an attempt to play it semi-safe, but many were still balking at the idea of taking these outside due to the inherent traction issues.

This new iteration fixes all that. And instead of just adding a rubber base, Crocs has decided to give it some style that flows into the midsole area, integrating with the organic lines of the sculpted upper of the clogs. The ribbed pattern on the bottom is designed to handle whatever terrain you’re headed to, from slick campsites to sandy beaches.

Building on Strong Foundations

Luckily, everything else here is pretty much the same, like the fully molded Croslite upper that keeps these shoes lightweight on your feet and the LiteRide footbed that gives you the best underfoot comfort that Crocs can provide. Of course, these shoes are still very water-friendly, and can be a solid trail shoe for low waterways and creek crossings due to their natural buoyancy and porousness.

There are some welcomed improvements elsewhere as well, including the adjustable canvas strap in back which now features elevated rubber accents and a padded heel section that gives you much better comfort than the original Echo design.

As much as these are intended for the outdoors, the eye-catching aesthetic of the matte black colorway with brown soles gives these a lot of leeway in terms of your wardrobe. The shoes also come in chalk and pink caramel.
