Earlier this year, Birkenstock put a utilitarian spin on two of its most legendary silhouettes: the Boston and London sandals. Two sides of the same coin, these Nova variants brought Gorpcore-inspired upgrades to a pair of clogs that have been around since the late ’70s and mid-’80s respectively. Now, just in time for the colder months, the German footwear icon is back with a winterized iteration that swaps out the original textile-and-nubuck construction for something decidedly more seasonal: wool felt.

Winter-Ready Workwear
The Utility Felt Pack doesn’t stray far from the Nova blueprint introduced back in April. You still get that same G-hook buckle system borrowed from outdoor gear, the anatomically shaped cork-latex footbed Birkenstock has been perfecting since 1896, and the two-component sole that marries lightweight EVA cushioning with a grippy rubber outsole. What changes here is the upper material — cozy synthetic felt paired with nubuck leather toe caps for added durability in front, protectinga gainst scuffs and water that would ordinarily wreck a standard fabric upper.

Available in Anthracite (in the Boston only) and Stone Coin (a light gray), both colorways lean into that muted, utilitarian aesthetic the Nova line has been cultivating. The felt provides natural insulation while designed to maintain breathability.

Boston vs. London
The distinction between these two comes down to coverage. The Boston Nova Felt keeps that open-back clog silhouette — easy on, easy off, perfect for quick errands or lounging around the house. The London Nova Felt, on the other hand, gives you a fully enclosed shoe with added foot coverage when temperatures really drop. Both feature rustproof metal hardware and adjustable nylon webbing for a secure fit, though the London naturally skews more protective for those who prioritize extra warmth during the colder months.
What hasn’t changed is the footbed. That contoured cork-latex foundation still molds to your feet over time, delivering the kind of personalized comfort that’s kept Birkenstock relevant for nearly 250 years, and have made them a favorite here in LA. The suede lining adds another tactile layer, while the slip-resistant outsole with Birkenstock’s proprietary bone profile ensures you won’t be sliding around on wet pavement.
