The Japanese performance brand has just unveiled its Gel-Late III CM 1.95, a training shoe with the lightest carbon footprint to date, resulting in carbon emissions of merely 1.95kg. It boasts a recycled polyester upper and Asics’ innovative carbon-negative foam, composed of bio-based polymers extracted from sugar cane. The eco-friendly runner also features a sock liner composed of the same polyester material, which Asics hopes to use throughout its entire catalog by 2030.
Additionally, the CM 1.95’s innovative tape construction allows for fewer materials and reduced textile waste, proving that its efforts go beyond the elements used throughout its development. The brand hopes to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, and as bold as it may be, developments like this show that we have no clue what the future holds.
