The popularity of outdoor clothing has ebbed and flowed since its heyday in the late eighties and early nineties, but an unlikely subculture would launch it into the stratosphere. Streetwear has been around in some form since the same time period, and was the catalyst for the popularity of techwear and gorpcore today. System_A is a sublabel that Arc’Teryx began in response to the growing interest in this city-friendly outdoor gear, and its latest collection, Drop 06, has just come out.
For the clothes in this collection, five mountain-ready garments with city-inspired style are up for grabs, starting with the Moroz Shell Jacket, a lightweight and packable nylon jacket with light moisture and wind resistance. It’s perfect for wearing while transitioning from the city to the outdoors, just like the Moroz Overpant, which is made from the same weather-resistant nylon, in a fit that allows you to layer easily. If you’re interested in shorts, the Tobi Short was made for hiking, as it features a lightweight and breathable shell and two cargo pockets for your gear. Two shirts are also available in this collection, starting with the Tyjax Insulated Shirt, which is made of insulating yet breathable material that’s also water-repellent and wind-resistant. The Tyjax T-Shirt may look more casual, but it also features moisture-wicking properties and odor-resistant material, making it another great hiking companion.
Moving away from the clothes, this drop also includes a pair of slip-on trail runners with an abrasion resistant upper, a knit collar to keep debris out, and Vibram Megagrip outsoles. The 16L Arro-X 16 Backpack has a futuristic look, along with backpack essentials like a laptop sleeve, a bladder compartment with a tube opening, and a kangaroo pocket with a WaterTight zipper.
