With a worldwide push to be more sustainable, it’s crucial that large companies lead the charge, from a logistics standpoint and to set an example. Arc’teryx has historically been conscious of its impact on the environment and promoting ethical practices, working to redesign its gear for sustainability without compromising quality. As one of Arc’teryx’s most popular styles, the Beta Jacket lineup has been subject to many redesigns over the years, and now Arc’teryx has revised it to be more sustainable with a new GORE-TEX material.

This time around, Arc’teryx is working further to reduce its carbon footprint by developing a new GORE-TEX material with an ePE membrane that doesn’t use PFAS (Per- and Polyfluorinated Substances). While ePE’s RET score is slightly worse than classic GORE-TEX, it’s more lightweight than PTFE GORE-TEX membranes. This is combined with a recycled nylon face and dope-dyed C-KNIT fabric in the backer, resulting in a lighter jacket overall. These updates are displayed in the new Beta Jacket, featuring an FC0 DWR coating, a recycled nylon face, the C-KNIT backer, and the new Gore-Tex ePE membrane, complete with a StormHood and an embedded RECCO reflector.

The Beta Lightweight Jacket uses the same GORE-TEX ePE fabric (that’s really the star of the show here), and it’s the lightest Beta Jacket from Arc’teryx to date. It also shares the C-KNIT backer and RECCO reflector but with a helmet-compatible StormHood instead. On top of that, the jacket is made in a Fair Trade Certified facility, demonstrating that Arc’teryx is considering each part of the process and how to make it more sustainable.
