adidas Launches a Resale Program to Trade in Your Used Apparel for Rewards

In efforts to save the planet, countless companies have given their hand in attempts to diminish the cyclical waste pattern. Today, adidas announced they would be continuing to do so themselves with a rather interesting new campaign. The sportswear conglomerate’s new ‘Choose to Give Back’ program is their response to the amount of pollution that corrupts the fashion industry. Their End Plastic Waste movement has been active for the past couple of years, but now they are taking it one step further.

Partnering alongside the Oakland-based thredUP’s Resale-as-a-Service, an online consignment store, adidas is offering customers the opportunity to send back their clothes for the purpose of being resold or recycled. The catch, however, is that there is no catch in the slightest; the worldwide performance brand is allowing people to trade in garments from any brand in their closets, albeit they are seeking pertinent gear above all else. With roughly 36 billion pieces of clothes getting thrown away for nothing, it’s refreshing to see that the brand is willing to accept offers from everyone, even competitors. Whether it’s a pair of old LeBrons, a fresh Bayern Munich jersey, or merely any windbreaker you haven’t touched in years, they’ll gladly take it.

Surely, repurposing clothes isn’t much of a state-of-the-art concept, but their objective is clear. The brand also claims that they are looking to achieve Carbon Neutrality through facilities across the states, such as retail stores and distribution centers. In the meantime, if you would like to try and save the planet, or some closet space, you will need to download the adidas Creator’s Club app for the sake of listing your clothing; however, they ultimately seek to offer their resale program in stores in the onset of 2022.
