Earlier this year, we took a look at the beautifully angular solar-powered camper developed by the architectural wizards at Polydrops. While their P17A sparked a ton of headlines upon the company saying it will be heading for production, the brand’s latest announcement seeks to push the envelope even further. With their P17X Explorer, Polydrops is veering off-road by delivering a rendition of their jaw-dropping camper that is now capable of overlanding.
While its mesmerizing exterior has a lot to say for itself, the interior is truly just as remarkable, offering exuberant amenities and jam-packing them to what remains a rather tightly-knit, conveniently transportable camper. Capable of hosting a party of two, the weatherproof cabin boasts mightily sufficient 8.7″ thick R14 insulation. Topped off with a pair of solar panels, the P17X Explorer also features an electric climate control system that offers an air conditioner, heater, and ventilator, ensuring that you (and a potential guest) will be comfortable no matter what Mother Nature has in store. As far as cooking is concerned, the camper comes equipped with a fully-electric kitchen that folds out to reveal a double-induction stovetop and a combination fridge and freezer. If that isn’t enough, there is a 12-volt motor pump with a six-gallon freshwater tank that can help power additional kitchen supplies. For those looking to boost this already-monstrous trail car, an extra pair of 130-watt solar panels can be added to round things out at a total of 4, as well as a pair of battery upgrades, maxing out at 12kWh. When it comes to what it can do off-road,
the P17X’s front-body armor, roof-rack, safety chain, marine-grade door hinges, and 235/75/15 All-Terrain Tires all come together for a camper that is well-equipped for all types of terrain.
For the relatively reasonable starting price of $34,990, Polydrops is currently taking $1,000 deposits for the P17X Explorer prior to its estimated delivery this upcoming summer. Needless to say, this is surely going to show up on a lot of summertime wishlists.
