As you very well know, especially if you’ve been paying attention to our site, the electric vehicle revolution is upon us. While the biggest names in the automobile industry are making the eventual switch from combustion engine to battery pack, smaller independent firms specializing solely in electric motors are also sprouting up with some fresh new ideas on how to make our air much cleaner. And this isn’t just the car world we’re talking about. We’re now getting electric-powered bicycles, scooters, tricycles, and boats. Now, thanks to the Swedish company Vidde, you can add snowmobiles to the list.
Coming out with the world’s first-ever fully-electric snowmobile, dubbed the Alfa, Vidde has equipped it with a 130kW electric motor capable of 175hp and 295lb.ft of torque, with a 595-pound continuous tow load. It will take around 3.5 hours to fully charge and you’ll get about 62mi of range. In development since early 2022, the Alfa is currently in its final testing phase and will confirm these numbers prior to delivery. Since it’s electric, the snowmobile would have also been incredibly quiet had the company not included a “new sound experience” for the vehicle for a safer and more enjoyable ride. During its development, the company also looked at a thermal management system for cold climates, allowing the snowmobile to operate in environments as low as -31ºF.
You’ll also notice the Vidde Alfa doesn’t just keep the air clean but it looks incredible. Designed in collaboration with Italian coachbuilder Pininfarina, known for its work designing Ferraris, Alfa Romeos, and Maseratis, the snowmobile looks aptly futuristic yet functional. It’s also built using recycled materials to further its friendliness with the environment.
