Toyota’s latest creation might just be the most frustrating automotive announcement of 2025. The Land Cruiser GR Sport Rally Raid celebrates Team Land Cruiser’s 12th consecutive Dakar Rally victory in the production vehicle category, but like so many of Japan’s coolest automotive offerings, it’s staying put in the home market. Toyota Auto Body — the subsidiary responsible for this rally-inspired masterpiece — is building exactly 12 complete vehicles, with another 12 conversion kits for existing GR Sport owners. The lottery system for acquiring one runs through September 28th, because apparently even exclusivity needs to be competitive.

Rally Cool
Toyota’s rally-raid pedigree spans decades, from privateers running production Land Cruisers in the inaugural 1979 Dakar to the modern Gazoo Racing dominance of today (the brand has claimed four outright Dakar victories since 2019, including back-to-back wins in 2022 and 2023, plus this year’s triumph). Speaking to the fundamental toughness built into every Land Cruiser that rolls off the line, the Rally Raid edition channels this heritage directly, developed by TLC rally driver Takashi Miura with the goal of creating “a car that can be driven quickly and safely on any road surface without tiring.”

Off-Road Royalty
The Rally Raid’s upgrades start with 18-inch Enkei PDT1 alloy wheels wrapped in chunky Toyo Open Country all-terrain rubber. Red brake calipers and tow hooks add visual pop while serving practical purposes, and Rally Raid-branded mud flaps complete the motorsport aesthetic. More importantly, revised suspension and cab mounts improve both ride quality and responsiveness, while new seats upholstered in leather and red suede keep occupants properly positioned during spirited driving.
The base GR Sport platform already brings substantial capability to the table. The twin-turbo 3.3-liter V6 diesel produces 304hp and 516lb.ft of torque, channeled through a 10-speed automatic to all four wheels via electronic front and rear differentials. Toyota’s E-KDSS system actively adjusts stabilizer bars based on individual wheel conditions, providing you with seriously sophisticated terrain management.
