If you’ve spent any time in the RV space over the last decade, you’ve watched the industry inch forward (better insulation here, a cool new feature there). Meanwhile, the bones underneath have stubbornly stayed the same, more or less.

Skydream Caravans, a Chinese startup founded in 2024, ditches incremental updates for broad innovative strokes. The company assembled its R&D team in 2023, went public at Caravan Salon Düsseldorf last summer with two nearly production-ready prototypes. It’s now rolling into San Jose on March 23 for its North American debut. The trailer they’re bringing doesn’t have an official name yet, but it already has our attention.

Built From the Ground Up

Rather than a power system bolted onto a conventional frame, the foundation here is a proprietary skateboard chassis that houses two LFP battery packs (45–85 kWh total), dual e-motors, independent air suspension on all four corners, plumbing, and electronics. It’s all integrated beneath a 26.5-foot, dual-axle shell.

This architecture borrows directly from EV platform design, which explains how Skydream can credibly claim up to 14 days of off-grid autonomy paired with 1,100–2,200W of roof-mounted solar. The chassis also supports V2H and V2G functionality, meaning stored energy can be reversed back to your house or charge another EV from camp.

Smarter Than Your Last Tow Rig

The ADAS suite is where Skydream earns its most staggering headlines. It boasts hill assist, traction assist, crosswind correction, active steering assist, and regenerative braking. You might find these things on a modern SUV, but not a towable trailer. More practically, you also get one-touch auto-hitch and unhitch and automatic camp leveling, while the stabilizer legs, awning, balcony, and ambient lighting all self-deploy at the press of a single.

Competitors like Pebble Flow and Lightship AE.1 have made real inroads on electric drive assist and remote parking, but neither ships with active steering assist or the kind of full-scenario automation Skydream is pitching. Whether all of it makes it to the production spec is the real question. After all, this is just still a startup announcing features so far, but the ambition is undeniable.

Living Spaces

Following a spacecraft-style asethetic, the interior sports a rounded setup, panoramic glass at the front bedroom, and an L-shaped sofa in the rear living area that converts to a queen bed. One of our favorite features is a kitchen galley that opens via a fold-down wall into a proper outdoor cooking and dining platform. Likewise, the entire right-side wall of the trailer folds down and out to create a 59sq.ft outdoor deck, essentially doubling your usable living space on that side.

Both the bedroom and living room get 60-inch projector screens with one-touch cinema mode that essentially transforms either the bedroom or living room into a mini home theater. The wet/dry separated bath, zero-gravity adjustable bed, and slide-out wine rack (yes, really) round out a spec sheet. You also get voice control, a removable tablet controller, app integration, and centralized touchscreens. The company says this trailer sleeps 6, but we’re skeptical on that number. Four adults seems more realistic.
