Though the segment was practically nonexistent just a decade ago, the electric off-road Powersports space has exploded in recent years, with an ever-growing number of startups all vying for a piece of this rapidly-expanding market. One such outfit is Canada’s Potential Motors — a fledgling firm based in New Brunswick that produces EV vehicle control systems for off-road OEMs and low-volume electric vehicles. And after raising over $5,000,000 in funding from several VCs, the company has now debuted its inaugural adventure vehicle with an all-electric UTV.
Running off of Potential Motors’ proprietary Off-Road OS vehicle control system, this forthcoming high-end overlanding rig is being touted by Potential as the world’s first electric adventure UTV. Boasting impressive go-anywhere capabilities, the Adventure UTV comes equipped with a low center of gravity, 12.9” of ground clearance, and approach, departure, and break-over angles of 40°, 45°, and 29°, respectively. Measuring 178” in length and sporting a 105-inch wheelbase, Potential’s UTV also features a width of just 64”, allowing it to venture onto trail networks that are too small for traditional overland trucks.
The cabin’s 2,550 liters of interior volume also means there’s plenty of room for storing gear and equipment, plus the roof of the vehicle boasts an integrated rack that affords additional storage space. The interior also gets an integrated full-size bed as well as a slide-out kitchen and multiple gear lockers. Built using all automotive-grade hardware, this van-style overlander is powered by a dual-motor platform that utilizes a differential-equipped four-wheel drive setup. This cutting-edge powertrain ultimately puts down 604hp and 737ft-lbs of instantly accessible torque. What’s more, the vehicle’s battery pack also allows for a true off-road range of around 100 miles.
Starting at $136,000, the Potential Motors Electric Adventure UTV is available for preorder now, requiring a deposit of only $1,000. The Adventure UTV is slated for a release this Fall.
