In early 2022, world-renowned customs shop Vagabund Moto took a break from building one-off bikes and bolt-on kits in order to partner with fellow Austrian outfit NINE ELEVEN OUTLAW to produce a Porsche 924/944-based safari kit sold as either a bundled kit or a complete vehicle. And after the first initial turnkey units were quickly purchased, Vagabund has once again joined forces with Tom Boder and his boutique Porsche parts business to deliver a unique one-off go-anywhere Porsche build dubbed the 924 Safari Special.
Also built in collaboration with Austria’s DakarGarage, the 924 Safari Special features a host of cosmetic and mechanic upgrades that afford the front-engined V8-powered donor with some impressive go-anywhere capabilities. This is thanks to a lift kit, a perforated skid plate, and blacked-out steel wheels shod in all-terrain rubber. A pair of HELLA Rallye 1000 lights also helps to guide the way. The car has also been capped off with a custom roof rack that now houses a full-sized spare tire and a crushproof Pelican gear case.
The interior of the car has also been modified and now sports a three-arm Sparco steering wheel, a short-throw shifter, and a Terratrip rally computer. No Vagabund project is ever complete without a largely muted or monochrome livery, and the 924 Safari Special is no exception. Starting with an off-white base coat with an almost pearl finish, the Porsche has been cloaked in red and gray accents and white script and Vagabund shop logos. While it’s by no means the most dramatic or transformative of off-road builds, the 924 Safari Special boasts all the upgrades needed for some serious go-anywhere thrills — plus looks fantastic.
Located in Austria, the Vagabund Moto x NINE ELEVEN OUTLAW x DakarGarage Porsche 924 Safari Special is currently for sale with an asking price of €35,000 (~ $37,650).
