Despite the fact that the company just pulled the cover off of its all-new Polestar 3 SUV model only three weeks ago, the Swedish electric car maker has now revealed its next forthcoming production model with the debut of the new Polestar 5.
Co-developed by a crack team of engineers based in Sweden and the UK, the Polestar 5 is a fully electric, high-performance, four-door luxury grand tourer that is an evolution of Polestar’s Precept concept that broke cover in early 2020. Using an all-new mechanical platform, the multi-national engineering team has designed a unique bonded aluminum chassis that serves as the basis and backbone of the vehicle.
Combining modern technology with what the company calls “low-volume performance car attributes,” the Polestar 5’s dual-unit powertrain is comprised of an 800-volt-architecture rear electric motor and a high-output front electric motor that together deliver 650kW (884hp) and 663ft-lbs of instantly-accessible torque. The Polestar 5 is also being built with a major focus on handling and overall driving dynamics, with the team aiming to produce a comfortable and practical daily driver that’s still thoroughly capable of both touring and spirited driving in the canyons or on the race track.
Rather than using traditional online and media channels, Polestar has opted to publicly unveil its new grand tourer at the ongoing Goodwood Festival of Speed, where the upcoming EV model has been seen racing up the hill. While pricing, availability, and final equipment and specs have yet to be announced, the company has confirmed that the upcoming Polestar 5 EV GT car is slated for a launch in 2024.
