Since the 1960s, Mopar has been enhancing the performance of muscle cars for both road and track. With the nascent stages of this automotive industry quasi-overhaul towards electric vehicles, the company has done its part with some EV concepts of its own, one of which is debuting this week at the SEMA auto show in Las Vegas.

Among the highlights this week is the Jeep CJ Surge, taking the notorious gas guzzler and giving it an efficient battery-powered propulsion system. Mounted to the frame using custom-designed mounts, the 400-volt, 200kW Electric Drive Module is powered by 24 lithium-ion batteries. Likewise, the gear can be selected via the two-speed Jeep transfer case, through which the torque is delivered.

Aesthetically, the 4×4 CJ Surge is pleasing to the eye, with an orange livery and blue and black graphics and striping. It sits on 35” all-terrain tires from BFGoodrich and a 2” lift kit, made even more off-road ready with a JPP Wrangler JK Rubicon Bumper Kit with winch, LED fog lights, roll cage, and JPP Rubicon skid, front-bumper plates, and rock rails.

The new Jeep CJ Surge is getting introduced alongside Mopar’s impressive pair of RAM concepts. The SEMA show takes place November 1 through 4 in the Las Vegas Convention Center.
