While the automotive world seems to be transitioning to all-electric vehicles at a rapid rate, some companies are still hanging on to their traditional combustion engines. However, one such marque finally hopped on board the battery-powered revolution.

After over 100 years of becoming a pinnacle in the luxury automobile world, Mercedes-Maybach has unveiled its very first plug-in hybrid vehicle. Joining its seventh-generation S-Class line which launched in 2021, the S 580 e offers the same top-of-the-line comfort and quality as its companions but with the option to drive with zero emissions when driving locally.

The car rides with the same inline six-cylinder engine as Mercedes’ standard S-Class vehicles, which provides 367hp, but combines with the electric motor for 510hp and 553lb.ft of torque, with a 0 to 60 of 5.1 seconds. When cruising around town or on highways up to 87mph you can drive completely electric, with a maximum range of around 62 miles (top speed is 155mph).

For now, the S 580 e will be available overseas, with no word yet on when it will be coming to the states. Head over to Mercedes-Maybach’s website for updates.
