Luxury yacht firm Lazzarini has never had a shortage of outside-the-box designs and ideas, but its recently-proposed Pangeos terayacht is inarguably its most unprecedented yet.
Named after the supercontinent Pangaea that existed before the distribution of continental mass which occurred over a 200-million-year period, Pangeos will be the largest floating structure ever built by man, spanning 1,800ft long and 2,000ft wide at its extremities. Shaped like a majestic turtle, the futuristic vessel will be capable of being a self-sustaining city in the water, housing and accommodating up to 60,000 residents.
First conceived in 2009 by Pierpaolo Lazzarini, Pangeos is proposed for settlement in a Saudi Arabian shipyard along the Red Sea and is estimated to cost $8 billion to build. When finished, it will include hotels, shopping centers, and parks, and the turtle’s wings will feature villas and ultra-long swimming pools. Additionally, the rooftop will be lined with solar panels for generating energy. Propelled by 9 HTS engines capable of 16,800hp each, the ship will have a cruising speed of 5 knots.
If all goes according to plan, Pangeos is expected to be completed by 2033. Those interested can visit the project’s site and reserve their “unreal estate” spots via a crowdfunding NFT campaign.
