Back in 2005, during his first year of professional rally racing, Ken Block competed at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in a Group N rally car. And after more recently filming the iconic Climbkhana video at Pikes Peak, Block and the HOONIGAN crew are now returning to Race to the Clouds, this time setting their sights on an overall PPIHC victory using a newly-unveiled, specifically-prepared Unlimited Class vintage Porsche 911 racer known as the “HOONIPIGASUS.”
Block, Scotto, and the rest of the HOONIGAN team were kind enough to invite HICONSUMPTION along for the HOONIPIGASUS’ grand unveiling in Los Angeles. Built by Huntington Beach’s BBi Autosport, Block’s latest competition-spec race car is based on a vintage 911 and packs a mid-mounted twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter flat-six engine. Mated to a custom SADEV Racing sequential six-speed gearbox, the flat-six is good for a whopping 1,400hp — all of which is delivered through an advanced all-wheel-drive system. Riding on custom Rotiform TSF forged 6161 wheels, the HOONIPIGASUS also gets a GPS-linked active suspension setup that adjusts rebound, damping, and ride height based on which of the mountain’s 156 turns the car is negotiating.
Weighing just over 2,200lbs, Block’s Pikes Peak racer also boasts an elaborate carbon fiber aero kit with a massive front splitter and an enormous rear wing that enable the bodywork to generate up to 5,000lbs of downforce. Block’s friend and collaborator Trevor Andrew — better known as “Trouble Andrew” or “GucciGhost” — was also tasked with designing the car’s livery. Despite being unaware of Porsche’s iconic Pink Pig livery from the 1970s, Andrew nonetheless ended up conjuring up a remarkably similar scheme, complete with a light pink base juxtaposed by his signature ghost motif and the Mobil 1 “Pegasus” — hence the build’s portmanteau monicker.
Competing in the Unlimited Class, Block will be campaigning the HOONIPIGASUS at the 100th running of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb later this June, where the world-famous wheelman will take on the now-fully-paved 12.42-mile road course in his new 1,400-hp beast of a 911.
