In 1953, Jaguar Cars Ltd. won the infamous 24 Hours of Le Mans, with its C-type taking first and second place. And with the 2023 model year marking the 70th anniversary since the British firm achieved this one-two finish, Jaguar has now opted to celebrate the occasion via a pair of one-off C-type continuation cars built to 1953 Works spec.
Known as the C-type Continuation 70 Edition, the celebratory project is limited to only two units — the first of which comes cloaked in a one-off Verbier Silver livery complemented via a Cranberry Red leather interior. The second car (seen here) — a tribute to the victorious C-type XKC051 — proudly wears the Works Team’s classic British Racing Green paint paired with a Suede Green leather interior. Both vehicles also sport roundels emblazoned with the race number 70. Alongside their bespoke paint, both continuation cars also come decked out in model-exclusive trim, handcrafted silver enameled badging, and ’70-Edition’ stitching and embroidery. What’s more, both of the two 70 Edition C-types also come with a bespoke key housing and dashboard plaque from partner jeweler Deakin & Francis — a legendary British jeweler dating back to 1786.
Under its perfectly-replicated aluminum bodywork, the 70 Edition packs a 3.4-liter straight-six engine that took a whopping nine months to bring to life. Fitted with a bank of refurbished Weber 40DCO3 carburetors, the six-cylinder engine cranks out 220hp. The 1953-era recreations also come loaded with disc brakes — a highly innovative feature seven decades ago. FIA-approved and eligible to participate in assorted FIA Historic events, each car was painstakingly handcrafted over the course of more than 3,000 hours at Jaguar Classic’s state-of-the-art Classic Works facility in Coventry.
Limited to only two units worldwide, the Jaguar C-type Continuation 70 Edition cars have both been priced at £1,500,000 (~ $1,704,400).
