For years, Hennessey Performance’s custom-tuned Mustangs have stood as markedly more powerful and high-performance alternatives to the Ford’s factory trim levels—including the Blue Oval’s Shelby specs. With the release of the Michigan marque’s Mustang GTD, Ford is now offering a turnkey Mustang that’s more potent and more exotic than Hennessey’s Mustang lineup. Never one to be outdone, the engineers and mechanics at Hennessey have now returned to the drawing board in order to deliver an even more powerful Mustang that takes aim at Ford’s almighty GTD-spec. Introducing the Hennessey Performance “Super Venom.”
The Basics
Hennessey has long possessed a reputation for unlocking massive amounts of power and bestowing stock vehicles with levels of performance typically reserved for the race track. For its most recent project, the company has managed to outdo itself with its most powerful modern muscle car to date.
Under The Hood
Starting with Ford’s fourth-generation 5.0-liter Coyote V8, Hennessey has proceeded to bestow the naturally-aspirated mill with a high-performance supercharger system. Other tweaks under the hood include a high-flow air induction upgrade, upgraded fuel injectors, an upgraded fuel pump, HPE engine management calibration, and a serial-numbered engine plaque. These changes collectively allow the now-supercharged V8 to crank out an astonishing 850hp and 650ft-lbs of torque—at 7,250RPM and 4,900RPM, respectively. These figures represent a whopping 70% increase in power over the standard Dark Horse trim. This is also greater than the 815hp made by the Mustang GTD—and close to the GTD’s 664ft-lbs of torque.
Exterior & Bodywork
The new seventh-gen Mustang is already a great looking vehicle in our opinion, though that hasn’t stopped Hennessey from jazzing up the pony car’s exterior, resulting in more aggressive looks, and better aero and performance to match. Upgrades to the Super Venom’s bodywork include a front splitter, side skirts, an active hood vent, functional fender louvers, a custom rear decklid, a lip spoiler, and a goose-neck track wing—all of which are crafted from exposed carbon fiber. Also added to the mix is a carbon fiber engine trim package, carbon fiber mirror caps, raised Hennessey ‘H’ fender badges, and Hennessey Signature Script trunk lid badging. Riding on a custom set of 20-Inch lightweight Performance Wheels, the entire vehicle also comes cloaked in a Hennessey Super Venom ‘91 Icon livery.
Moving Inside
Hennessey is never content merely upgrading a vehicle’s powertrain and exterior, and cabin customization is a crucial step in the tuner’s transformations—with the Super Venom being no exception. For this 850-hp Mustang, Hennessey has outfitted the car with a full leather and Alcantara interior upgrade, as well as signature embossed logos on the headrests, a tailor-made Hennessey dash plaque, and Hennessey all-weather floor mats.
Additional Details
In typical Hennessey fashion, each Super Venom unit sees all of its upgraded components professionally installed before undergoing chassis tuning, dyno tuning, and extensive road testing. Each vehicle also comes backed by an included three-year/36,000-mile warranty.
