Ferrari’s status as one of the most important manufacturers is well-known, but real fans also know that there are five especially influential models (known as the “Big Five”) that make The Prancing Horse what it is. And a collection of all five of these cars is up for auction through RM Sotheby’s in the Dare to Dream Collection.
Kicking the collection off, we have the 1985 Ferrari 288 GTO, which serves as the cornerstone of Ferrari’s legendary “Big Five” lineage. Production was capped at 272 models, and it’s widely considered to be what kicked off Ferrari’s future run of limited-edition hypercars. This particular model boasts “former celebrity ownership” and was restored by a professional in Italy pretty recently in 2019.
Next up is the 1990 Ferrari F40, evolving from the legendary 288 GTO into a street-legal racer with a twin-turbo V8, and the model being auctioned only has around 998 miles on it and comes with a Ferrari Classiche Certificate of Authenticity and Red Book (same as the F50 below).
The 1996 Ferrari F50 kicks the racing abilities up a notch with a V12 engine, and before its 13-year ownership under a Monaco-based collector, it was maintained by a seasoned Ferrari specialist.
Debuting in 2002, this 2003 Ferrari Enzo was the first ever to appear in North America and only had three previous owners. It comes with US specs and remains a true love letter to Formula 1.
The 2015 Ferrari LaFerrari (which was the most powerful car Ferrari made at the time) closes the collection out, and comes in the model’s signature color combo of Rosso Corsa over Pelle Neri leather.
Auctions are being held through RM Sotheby’s as part of the Dare to Dream Collection, including the 1985 Ferrari 288 GTO (with bids starting at $3,750,000), the 1990 Ferrari F40 (starting at $2,750,000), the 1996 Ferrari F50 (starting at $3,800,000), the 2003 Ferrari Enzo (starting at $3,750,000), and the 2015 Ferrari LaFerrari (starting at $3,850,000).
