Ferrari’s Special Projects program exists to create completely bespoke machines for clients who want something beyond the catalog. The latest arrival from Maranello’s most exclusive division is the SC40, a one-of-one berlinetta that pulls design cues from arguably the most important Ferrari ever built: the F40.
The SC40 takes the 296 GTB’s exceptional mid-engine platform and wraps it in bodywork that strikes a balance between homage and reinvention.

F40 Filtered Through a Contemporary Lens
The F40 connection runs deeper than the name. Enzo Ferrari’s final masterpiece — built from 1987 to 1992 to celebrate the company’s 40th anniversary — was defined by its uncompromising focus on speed and lightness. Kevlar and carbon fiber construction, a turbocharged V8, and a stripped-down interior all served in the name of pure performance.
The SC40 borrows that philosophy, translating it into modern terms. Flavio Manzoni’s team at Ferrari’s Styling Centre didn’t try to literally recreate the F40’s wedge-shaped silhouette. Instead, they merely referenced its angular geometry and industrial aesthetic. Subtle nods include the fixed rear wing flows directly from the engine cover, the NACA-inspired side intakes carve into the flanks, and smoked Lexan louvres reveal the V6 beneath. The most direct callback is the “SC40” script engraved on the side of the rear wing, mirroring the F40’s original typography.

Industrial Precision with Hybrid Power
Where the F40 relied on a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V8 making 478hp, the SC40 uses the 296 GTB’s 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 paired with an axial-flux electric motor. The hybrid setup delivers 830hp and 546lb.ft of torque through an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission — far exceeding the F40’s output while adding electric-only driving capability. The styling emphasizes the car’s mechanical underpinnings. Vertical lines structure the design like a grid, defining crisp edges on the front wings, doors, and engine cover. The rear fascia features an open mesh that exposes structural components, while the central exhaust — produced through additive manufacturing with titanium and carbon-fiber tips — sits prominently between redesigned taillights. Up front, corner-mounted headlights integrate into black housings that extend downward to meet a full-width lower intake, giving the SC40 an aggressive stance.

Kevlar Callbacks Inside
The interior leans heavily on Kevlar, the same material that defined the F40’s cabin. Carbon-Kevlar appears in the footwells, behind the seats, on floor mats, and across the steering wheel and dashboard inserts. The upholstery combines Charcoal Alcantara with red Jacquard technical fabric, while the Prancing Horse on the headrests and woven SC40 logo keep things contemporary. The bespoke SC40 White exterior — a cool-toned shade developed specifically for this car — accentuates the bodywork’s sharp lines and recalls the carbon-Kevlar used inside. Brushed aluminum fuel and charging caps, along with custom wheels featuring brushed metal surfaces and black spokes, complete the package.
