Working out of a 40,000sq-ft production facility in County Durham, England, Evolution E-Types is a British automotive specialist whose work straddles the line between restomods and continuation cars, bestowing the classic Jaguar with modern performance parts while retaining the outward appearance of what Enzo Ferrari called “the most beautiful car ever made.” Alongside offering a high-performance version of the regular E-Type — which the company calls the “Steel Body” — Evo E-Types also produces a modernized continuation version of the famed, ultra-rare E-Type Low Drag.
Currently offered in coupe, roadster, or speedster variants — though the company is poised to soon roll out a Lightweight-spec — the Evolution E-Type Low Drag is a bespoke rolling work of art and engineering. Crafted from aerospace-grade aluminum, each body is created by hand over the course of three months and requires some 1,500 hours of labor to form. What’s more, the paint work on the Low Drag requires another 700 hours of labor. Born out of another 500 hours of work is the Low Drag’s engine. Starting by stripping down an original 4.2-liter XK engine, the Low Drag’s mill is stroked out to 4.7-liters before being fitted with a host of upgraded internals and then finally mated to an in-house-designed and manufactured five-speed gearbox.
Utilizing Nitron shocks, the Low Drag’s upgraded suspension features double wishbones out front and an independent setup in the rear. Other upgrades include numerous 17” stainless steel wheel options, a hand-built performance exhaust system, and an Evolution Dual Servo Brake System with six-piston front calipers and four-pot rear calipers — both of which are machined from titanium billet. Trimmed in natural grain leather or Alcantara in the buyer’s choice of color, the interior is also crafted on a bespoke basis, and not only includes adjustable electronic power steering, modern AC, a DAB radio, Bluetooth conecvittit, a sat-nav, a heated windscreen, and electric windows.
