We’ve watched Capricorn Group supply components for decades — pistons for Bugattis, aerodynamic pieces for the R8, dynamic wings for the GT3 RS. The German firm has been the invisible hand behind some of the fastest machinery on Earth since the 1980s, operating quietly from facilities near the Nürburgring. But founder Dr. Robertino Wild and his team apparently got tired of playing second fiddle. Priced at well over $3 million, the result is the Capricorn 01 Zagato, a 900-horsepower hypercar that pairs a supercharged Ford V-8 with a five-speed manual and weighs less than a loaded Miata.

Racing DNA Meets Italian Tailoring
Zagato’s first hypercar design doesn’t disappoint. The Milan-based coachbuilder responsible for sultry Aston Martins and aggressive Alfa Romeos brought Chief Designer Norihiko Harada into the fold to pen a timeless silhouette.
Zagato’s signature double-bubble roof sits atop gullwing doors, while aggressive air intakes and outlets define the profile. Downforce comes from intelligent underfloor management and diffusers rather than ostentatious aero, keeping the visage clean. The bodywork wraps an LMP1-inspired carbon fiber monocoque — the same racing-grade construction Capricorn has supplied to endurance teams for years, now scaled for the street.

No Screens, No Compromise
Step inside and you’re met with analog instruments, titanium switchgear, and Connolly leather. And best of all, there’s not a touchscreen in sight. The cabin feels more Porsche 962 than modern GT car, with a central tachometer flanked by straightforward gauges for speed, fuel, and vitals. The three-spoke steering wheel handles start/stop and drive modes but stays simple otherwise. Fixed racing seats adjust via cushioning rather than electric motors, while the steering column, pedal box, and the gear shifter itself all move to fit drivers from five-foot-nothing to upwards of 7ft. Each car comes fully bespoke with custom paint, exposed carbon options, personalized leather and Alcantara trim

Blending American Muscle with German Discipline
Capricorn started with a Ford 5.0-liter V-8, bored it to 5.2 liters, bolted on a supercharger, then rewrote the ECU and swapped in a custom crankshaft, rods, and pistons. Add a dry-sump system, bespoke intake and exhaust, and you’ve got 888+ hp spinning to 9,000 rpm. That power hits the rear wheels through a CIMA five-speed dogleg manual — no paddle shifters, no dual-clutch safety net. The car weighs under 2,646lbs dry, delivering a sub-3-second 0-60 sprint and a 224 mph top speed. Brembo carbon-ceramics with six-piston calipers handle stopping duties, while Bilstein pushrod suspension offers Comfort, Sport, and Track modes. The electric power steering even disconnects at speed for full mechanical feedback.

Recap
Capricorn 01 Zagato Hypercar
German engineering firm Capricorn (the guys who’ve been supplying parts to Bugatti and Porsche for decades) just dropped their own hypercar with a 900-hp supercharged Ford V-8, a five-speed manual, and a body designed by Zagato. Only 19 are being built at around $3.4 million each.
