First established in 1999, Bowler Motors is an elite British automotive outfit that specializes in transforming Land Rover SUVs into ultra-capable go-anywhere builds and off-road racers. An official part of Jaguar Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations division (as of 2019), the Belper-based business has an extensive portfolio of completed builds and conversions, though now, after nearly a quarter of a century in operation, and Bowler is celebrating the completion of its 100th full commission of a 90 wheelbase Defender — an achievement it’s celebrating via the release of a new one-off project.
Christened the Bowler Motors 100th Edition Defender 90 Fast Road Conversion, this one-of-a-kind Defender 90 benefits from Bowler’s more than two decades of experience building out ultra-competitive, thoroughly ruggedized off-road racers. The 100th Edition Defender is based on Bowler’s Fast Road Conversion, which itself is an evolution of the British brand’s proven Defender Challenge Rally Series vehicle. Bolstering the Defender’s go-anywhere capabilities is Bowler’s Fast Road Suspension setup, an external protection pack in Corris Grey including new bumpers, steering guard, sills, and rear steps, roll-over protection, bumper mounted Lazer ST4 LED spotlights, and a set of Bowler 18” alloy wheels — a full size spare of which is housed internally in the Defender.
Wearing a special livery, the rig also boasts a Bowler Stage 2 engine upgrade with an up-specced intercooler, a Bowler performance exhaust complete with a mudflap kit, a Bowler Big Brake kit, LED headlights with Bowler Signature surrounds, smoked side lights, a special graphics package, custom Bowler hood lettering, all stainless steel fixings, and bespoke artisan-made badges. Inside, the interior of the high-performance pickup has been fully soundproofed and heavily reworked, now sporting a half bulk-head delete, Recaro SVX 60th Anniversary seats, leather dash tops, a MOMO race-style steering wheel trimmed in Alcantara, a Bowler gear-shifter Kit, Alcantara roof lining, and an Alpine double din head unit with a built-in reverse camera feed.
