LMC Debuts an EV Conversion Kit for Vintage BMW Airhead Motorcycles

Electric vehicle conversions have grown increasingly popular in recent years, allowing classic cars to retain their distinctive appearance while concealing modern EV powertrains. This trend, however, has yet to catch on in the two-wheeled realm, though this appears to now be changing with the debut of Luuc Muis Creations’ all-new BMW R Series E-drive Conversion.

LMC’s battery-powered R Series maintains the airhead’s chassis, tank, and boxer engine, though the latter item has been completely gutted and then fitted with a modern battery pack and electric motor. This allows the BMW to retain the distinctive shape of its engine, protruding cylinder heads and all. Sold as a kit, the conversion comes fitted with a 4.3kW battery that affords a range of around 50 miles per charge, though the bike’s autonomy can be doubled or even tripled when optioned with a larger battery pack.

The conversion is comprised of more than just an EV powertrain swap and includes a myriad of additional touches that result in a more modern appearance and contemporary performance capabilities. This includes a circular LED headlight, aftermarket rear sets, a mono-shock conversion, a shortened inverted front end complete with a dual-disc braking setup, and a kicked-up, hooped subframe capped off with a brat-style seat. The conversion also retains the donor’s gearbox.

To order one of LMC’s BMW R Series E-drive Conversion kits or to inquire about pricing, interested parties can contact the shop via its website. And, while Luuc Muis Creations has opted to debut this conversion kit on a vintage BMW, the custom moto shop says it will be compatible with the vast majority of retro pre-unit construction-engined motorcycles.
