First debuting in 1961, the International Harvester Scout was once prized by farmworkers and laborers for its immensely rugged and utilitarian design and engineering — traits that have made the Scout an increasingly popular platform for modern customs builds, as evidenced by this ’72 Scout II restomod that’s just hit the online auction block.

Though by no means period correct in its modifications, this high-end restomod build nonetheless attempts to maintain much of the ‘70s era donor’s visual DNA, with the exterior of the vehicle going largely unmolested save for the addition of LED headlights bookending a smoothed chrome-finished grille. Wearing a fresh coat of sand paint with white lower body accents, the entire build rides on white powder-coated 17″ US Wheel steel wheels with chrome hubcaps and 33″ Toyo Open Country III tires. Now trimmed in custom tan vinyl upholstery with striped cloth inserts, the modernized interior of the Scout II now sports power-adjustable front bucket seats plucked from a late-model Chevrolet Tahoe, a Vintage Air AC system, a Custom Autosound Bluetooth stereo, a JB Custom fabrication shifter with a B&M handle, aftermarket instrumentation, and a wood-rimmed steering wheel.

Improved off-roading abilities have been afforded through the addition of a 2” Rough Country lift kit, an Anything Scout steering stabilizer, power-assisted front discs brakes, an NP241 dual-range transfer case, and Dana 44 axles. The donor’s chassis has also been modified in order to accommodate a larger GM-sourced 6.0-liter LS2 V8 crate engine which has been paired with an upgraded radiator, reconditioned International Harvester valve covers, stainless steel headers feeding into a dual Flowmaster exhaust system, and a 4L60E four-speed automatic transmission sending power to all four wheels. Rounding out the build is a custom-upholstered aftermarket roll-cage and a removable white-finished hard top, matching the build’s lower body panels.
