Founded in 2007 by Randy Nonnenberg and Gentry Underwood, Bring a Trailer has grown from a small San Francisco-based auction site to a world-renowned platform and a go-to choice for discovering and purchasing an incredibly diverse array of vehicles across an even wider range of eras and makes. And after only 16 years in operation, and the famed digital auction platform is now celebrating the listing of its 100,000th lot. To mark the occasion, BaT has carefully curated this historic landmark lot, selecting a company-owned 1973 Datsun 240Z.
Originally sold new on December 8, 1972, at Datsun dealer Rodgers and Rodgers Inc. in El Centro, California, this pristine 240Z example was later acquired by Bring a Trailer in 2018 and has since been used as an event car — which has also participated in a handful of rallies. Maintained by Rob Fuller of San Jose, California’s Z Car Garage Inc, this beautiful vintage Japanese-built specimen is powered by a numbers-matching Rebello Racing-built 2.7-liter straight-six engine fitted with a triple Weber 40 DCOE carb setup, a 280ZX five-speed manual transmission, a custom-built driveshaft, an R200 limited-slip differential with a finned rear cover, and a custom aftermarket exhaust system in the form of a ceramic-coated six-into-one header feeding into a single-pipe exhaust system culminating in twin MagnaFlow mufflers.
Wearing Lime Yellow paint over black vinyl upholstery, the car rides on a set of silver-finished 16” Panasport wheels with polished lips and Michelin Pilot Exalto PE2 UHP tires. Other upgrades made to the car include Eibach springs paired with Tokico Illumina adjustable struts, a billet mustache bar, a rear brace kit, and a Z Car Garage Big Brake kit comprised of StopTech four-piston aluminum calipers, slotted 280mm rotors, and braided stainless steel hoses fore and aft. What’s more, all proceeds from the sale will be donated to the Piston Foundation, which supports and provides educational opportunities for the next generation of gearheads.
