Based on the 427 GT40 platform, the Ford GT40 X1 was a 1960s-era, open-top, experimental race vehicle used by the Blue Oval to test various engines and transmissions. In the mid-2000s, a modern tribute to the X1 was produced which was limited to only four units. Now viewed as one of the most elite modern Ford GTs, one of these extremely rare automotive homages is now due to cross the auction block.
Commissioned by avid car collector, Hamad Alkaz, the drop-top GTX1 was built for the 2005 SEMA Show, where it unsurprisingly garnered an enormous amount of attention. Built by the Genaddi Design Group with Ford’s blessing, the GTX1 featured a Targa-style top that could be configured in an open-air setup or in a T-top configuration thanks to the use of a removable center-bar and roof panels. Adorned in a Valencia yellow livery with Titanium racing stripes and custom “Ford GTX1” graphics, the American-made supercar boasted a carbon aero package with a front splitter, side skirts, and a rear diffuser that all leave the material’s weave on full display.
Powering the GTX1 is a mid-mounted, modified supercharged 5.4-liter V8 cranking out 700hp — a 150hp bump over the stock 2005 GT. Other alterations to the donor include a redesigned carbon fiber rear clamshell, specially embroidered SPARCO seats, and a Borla exhaust system. Rounding out this example are matching Valencia yellow, upgraded calipers and custom five-arm wheels.
Sporting less than 130 original miles on the clock, this 2005 Ford GTX1 is slated to cross the auction block at Broad Arrow Auctions’ upcoming West Palm Beach sale starting August 19th, where this one-of-four example is expected to fetch between $850,000 and $1,000,000.
