In 2024 alone, Aston Martin has introduced a brand-new V12 engine, unveiled its most powerful Vantage supercar ever, introduced its fastest production car yet in the Vanquish, and even managed to squeeze in a Goldfinger edition of the DB12. If you haven’t had enough yet, be prepared to get a full unveiling of the Valhalla, the British marque’s first-ever plug-in hybrid.
Debuting as a concept car in 2019, with a production version teased all the way back in 2021, the Valhalla supercar was starting to look as mythical as its namesake hall from Norse legend. However, Aston Martin now sets its sights on Q2 of 2025 for production in earnest.
What’s Happening Under the Hood?
Prior to that, of course, it gives us all the details on the hybrid, which includes specs for the 4.0L twin-turbocharged V8 engine, combining 817hp — which would be the most ever for any vehicle from the company — with the power from the trio of electric motors for a total of 1,064hp and 811lb.ft of torque. This is certainly more than the projected specs from a year ago that had the powertrain at 998hp.
Working in tandem with the brand-new 8-speed dual-clutch transmission and highly responsive hydraulically actuated electronic rear differential, the V8 gets its power boost from larger turbos, a dry sump lubrication system, 180-degree offset flat-plane crankshaft, and new camshafts and exhaust manifolds. The Valhalla will also be electronically limited at 217mph with a 0-to-60 of 2.5 seconds in all-wheel drive. On electric power alone, you’ll be limited to just 80mph with only an 8.6-mile range.
Looks Won’t Be Deceiving
If you’re familiar with Aston Martin’s recent vintage, you won’t be too blown away by the Valhalla. However, it’s still an objectively beautiful ride, and one that obviously favors aerodynamics. Featuring sleek bodywork (in green, red, or blue), the supercar is equipped with active aero items and multi-element wings in both the front and rear that can collectively generate over 1,300lbs of downforce at speeds of 149mph.
For a heightened driving experience that’ll make you feel like you’re on the track even if you’re causing the highway, the interior cockpit has been equipped with monobloc carbon fiber seats and an F1-inspired steering wheel with a carbon fiber armature.
Fitted with forward-hinged dihedral doors, the entire supercar is crafted around a lightweight bespoke carbon fiber monocoque chassis that’s been fitted with aluminum subframes attached to the front and rear tubs and a push-rod front suspension setup. Carbon ceramic disc brakes work in tandem with the new Power Brake system for both progressive stopping power and a fine-tuned pedal feel across all ranges of deceleration.
