Aston Martin’s series of DB grand tourers may be the most beautiful automotive line in history. From early examples like the rare DB4 GT Zagato and James Bond’s famed DB5 to 21st-century stunners like the Ian Callum- and Henrik Fisker-designed DB9 and current DB11, there isn’t a badly-drawn line in the bunch. But with the days of gas-powered autos being numbered, these cars — particularly the older ones — are in danger of soon becoming undrivable relics. That’s where UK automotive restorer Lunaz Design comes in.
Lunaz restores, “remasters,” and electrifies some of the most important and beautiful classic British cars, with the idea of preserving them for future generations to enjoy. They currently offer electric versions of select classic Bentleys, Jaguars, Rolls-Royces, and Range Rovers, and now they’ve turned their attention to Aston Martin by offering their electrified restomod treatment on the Aston Martin DB6. Originally produced from 1965 to 1971, the DB6 was very similar in appearance to its predecessor, the DB5, but offered some slight upgrades and refinements. The car was originally offered with an inline-six engine, but that of course has been swapped out by Lunas in favor of an all-electric powertrain. The conversion begins with an exhaustive bare-metal restoration and reengineering process that sees the brakes, chassis, suspension, and steering brought up to modern standards. The interior is also contemporized with the addition of infotainment systems, WiFi, and air conditioning. Powering the build is Lunaz’s in-house modular electric powertrain Tier 1 OEM battery cells and motors. There’s no word on horsepower or torque yet — Lunaz claims the DB6 will have “brisk acceleration” — but the car’s range is 255 miles and it is equipped with fast charging.
Lunaz boasts a team of over 100 on the project, with a designer from Aston Martin Q-Branch and an engineer who’s customized classic Astons for James Bond movies leading the way. Clients are invited to customize much of the car’s interior and exterior, with options for sustainable, animal-free, and recycled materials on offer. Of course, electrifying a DB6 doesn’t come cheap. Final prices will vary by client, but Lunaz says buyers can expect to pay over $1,000,000 for an electric DB6 — and considerably more if they’d like to special order an electric DB4 or DB5. Order books are open now at Lunaz Design, with the first deliveries expected to occur in the third quarter of 2023.
