For decades, Ford loyalists watched from the sidelines as American Expedition Vehicles transformed Ram and GM trucks into trail-ready overlanders, wondering when they would get their turn. Well, AEV finally decided to do just that, dropping the FXL Package for Ford’s Super Duty lineup.

The Roman Numeral Says It All
For those of you wondering, “F” stands for Ford, while “XL” represents the Roman numeral 40 — as in 40-inch BFGoodrich HD-Terrain tires. Getting rubber that large under a Super Duty without turning it into a top-heavy mall crawler required a 4-inch DualSport suspension system with custom-rate coil springs and Bilstein shocks. The geometry corrections preserve the truck’s original payload and towing capacity while keeping the center of gravity low.
Those BFGoodrich HD-Terrains are purpose-designed for heavy-duty applications, built to handle the torque loads of diesel and gas HD engines. Wrapped around 18-inch AEV Katmai DualSport wheels (beadlock-capable for serious off-road work), there’s enough sidewall here to air down for maximum traction without worrying about pinch flats.

Built Like It Came From Dearborn
AEV’s stamped steel front bumper follows factory lines precisely while integrating all the ADAS radar components. That means adaptive cruise control and pre-collision systems keep working like normal. The winch mount handles up to 20,000lbs, and chassis-mounted recovery points meet or exceed OE standards. There’s also a high-clearance rear bumper with corner protection.
To clear those 40s, AEV fits its HighMark fender flares, utilizing cross-linked polyethylene construction that allows full suspension articulation without rubbing the tires.

The AEV Difference
What separates this from your typical lift kit is how AEV validates everything as a complete vehicle at their 200,000-square-foot facility in Wixom, Michigan. The company relocated from Montana specifically to be closer to suppliers and Ford’s engineering resources. Likewise, every FXL conversion gets a 3-year/36,000-mile comprehensive warranty.
You can buy a turnkey FXL through authorized AEV dealerships, or pick up individual components through their global dealer network. Starting in Q3 2026, they’ll also release components for 10-lug F-450 and F-550 platforms.
