The INEOS Grenadier has been one of the more exciting things to happen to the off-road world since the original Defender went away in 2016. Jim Ratcliffe built it from scratch after JLR refused to sell him the tooling, sketched the concept at his favorite London pub, and put the thing through 1.1 million miles of testing before the first customer took delivery. It’s a proper rig. What it wasn’t, until now though, was a place you could actually sleep. Storyteller Overland, the Birmingham-based outfit that’s been building some of the most thoughtfully designed expedition vans on the market since 2019, just changed that with the Grand Bohemian, a fully integrated micro camper conversion.
The Base Is Already Doing Heavy Lifting
Built on the Grenadier Trialmaster, the Grand Bohemian starts with a body-on-frame chassis, Carraro solid beam axles, a Tremec two-speed transfer case, permanent four-wheel drive, and a BMW 3.0L inline-six making 282 hp and 332 lb-ft through a ZF 8-speed automatic. Tow rating is 7,716 lbs.
For its contribution, Storyteller added EVICTUS Prerunner suspension, Torque Enduro wheels, BFGoodrich off-road rubber, a GP Factor bull bar with an integrated 12,500-lb winch, a full 360-degree lighting suite, and a twin ARB air compressor. Drawing on the off-road heritage of events like the Dakar Rally, Rebelle Rally, and Camel Trophy in its development process, the result is a Grenadier that was already credible and is now a force to be reckoned with.
Living Quarters, Seriously
The Alu-Cab Silenus pop-top is the centerpiece. Deployed, it opens up rear standing room and a lofted sleeping area insulated with closed-cell foam. Below that, the rear seating is gone, replaced by a leather-cushioned lounge bench on 500-pound roller-bearing slides, a hardwood butcher block galley with an induction cooktop, integrated sink, and portable fridge/freezer.
Power comes from a 5.4kWh Lithionics battery bank fed by 400W of solar and a 30-amp shore connection, managed through a REDARC control panel. A Rixen hydronic system handles heat and hot water. There’s a composting toilet, exterior shower, and a 270-degree batwing awning outside. Air conditioning is the one thing missing, but a portable unit fits the bill easily enough.
Not Just Bolted Together
The Grand Bohemian is RVIA-certified, designed and engineered as a fully integrated system from the ground up. Essentially, this is not a stock vehicle with aftermarket parts stacked on after the fact. That distinction puts the entire build under a single Storyteller warranty and unlocks long-term RV financing (up to 20 years) at rates a standard vehicle purchase won’t even get you.
