After disappearing from showrooms in early 2024, the supercharged monster that put Ford’s Raptor on notice is staging its comeback. Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa confirmed what truck enthusiasts have been hoping for during the company’s Q2 earnings call: The Ram 1500 TRX will return for 2026, bringing its Hellcat-sourced fury back to the desert racing scene.
The original TRX was Ram’s answer to Ford’s F-150 Raptor while also serving as a middle finger to the entire concept of restraint. While competitors focused on off-road capability, Ram stuffed a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 under the hood and called it a day. The result was 702hp of pure automotive chaos that could hit 60 mph in 4.5 seconds and maintain a top speed of 118 mph. Not bad for something designed to jump sand dunes.
The Resurrection Play
The timing couldn’t be better for Ram’s comeback story. With emissions regulations loosening under the current administration and Ford’s Raptor R now pushing 720hp, the new TRX has clear targets to exceed. Filosa specifically mentioned the truck’s profit potential during the earnings call, suggesting this isn’t just about reclaiming bragging rights but building a halo product that drives serious margin.
Production is slated to begin at Sterling Heights Assembly in January 2026, nearly two years after the TRX nameplate went dark. While we don’t know much yet, the new truck will likely mirror the styling updates from the 2025 refresh while packing even more punch than its predecessor. Tim Kuniskis, now heading Stellantis’ North American operations and the newly revived SRT division, practically guarantees this won’t be a half-hearted effort.
Desert Storm Redux
The original TRX carved out its own category when it debuted as a 2021 model. Built on the fifth-generation Ram 1500 platform with a reinforced frame, long-travel suspension, and functional hood scoop, it represented everything excessive about American truck culture, and truck buyers loved it! Limited editions like the Launch Edition and Final Edition further proved there was serious demand for a no-compromise performance pickup.
Nevertheless, Ram now needs to beat its own 702-hp record while also embarrassing Ford’s 720-hp Raptor R. That supercharged 6.2-liter will almost certainly push well beyond 720 horses, maybe even hitting the Hellcat Redeye numbers of around 800. This is Stellantis basically admitting they killed off too many good things when everyone was rushing toward electrification.
