If you’ve been following Genesis since its 2015 launch as Hyundai’s luxury offshoot, you know the Korean brand has built its reputation on elegant sedans and refined SUVs. But the X Skorpio Concept — unveiled in the UAE’s Empty Quarter desert — takes that design language off-road.
Desert Racing in Its Veins
The X Skorpio is Genesis’s most extreme concept yet, trading the brand’s typical grand touring sophistication for Dakar Rally aggression. For the task, the company built a fully functional prototype with a tubular frame, integrated roll cage, and a V-8 pumping out 1,100hp and 850 lb.ft of torque. Those numbers put it ahead of Lamborghini’s Revuelto, though admittedly in a very different context.
Riding on 18-inch beadlock wheels wrapped in custom 40-inch tires, the X Skorpio sits high enough to tackle serious terrain. Motorsport-grade Brembo brakes are equipped and a specially tuned suspension prepares the concept for the kind of high-flying jumps that define desert racing. The roof-mounted air intake feeds clean air to that potent V-8 while visually evoking to a scorpion’s stinger.
Material Difference
The bodywork blends carbon fiber, Kevlar, and fiberglass to keep weight optimal, with panels hugging close to the tubular frame and high-clearance fenders maximizing approach and breakover angles. Inside, the cabin features leather-wrapped surfaces, a navigation screen mounted in front of the passenger, and Alcantara grab handles flanking a center console loaded with switches. The racing-style steering wheel integrates a digital gauge cluster at eye level.
This concept follows Genesis’s growing X series, which has evolved from the original electric GT coupe in 2021 to performance-focused machines like the X Gran Berlinetta. The X Skorpio pushes further into off-road territory, joining recent reveals like the GV60 Outdoors and GV70 Outdoors concepts.
