A few years back, Mercedes-AMG rolled out a redesigned SL Roadster that was kicked along by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. After the warm public reception of the forced-induction four-banger, the marque has now announced that it’ll be shoehorning this same inline-four platform into the latest iteration of its entry-level performance coupe, the Mercedes-AMG GT43.

Best-described as a cutting-edge, high-tech pure driver’s car, the 2025 AMG GT 43 features the brand’s existing hand-built M139 AMG 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, which is now good for cranking out a very respectable 416hp and 369ft-lbs of torque. All of this power is sent to the GT 43’s rear wheels, too, using the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 9G transmission. These power figures enable the new four-cylinder coupe to do 0-60mph in 4.5 seconds and reach an electronically-limited top speed 174mph. Borrowing technology developed for use in Formula 1 competition, the four-cylinder platform utilizes an electric exhaust gas turbocharger that’s operated via a 48-volt on-board electrical system which is also used to feed the powertrain’s belt-driven starter generator.

Just like with its higher-specced V8-powered counterpart, the 2025 AMG GT 43’s highlights don’t end with what’s found under the hood, as the vehicle benefits from a host of other high-performance features and hardware. For starters, the coupe features numerous exterior design elements that are exclusive tot the AMG GT 43 — including a bevy of active aero elements. The vehicle has also been bestowed with a multi-link suspension with lightweight aluminum components and an AMG-spec high-performance composite braking system. Also included are five separate drive programs as well as AMG DYNAMICS. This series of updates ultimately results in a more nimble and more capable entry-level addition to this famed platform.
