Ducati Unleashes a Heavily-Updated XDiavel V4 Sport-Cruiser With a New MotoGP-Derived Engine

In the early 1970s, Ducati introduced the world to its first-ever motorcycle to feature an L-Twin engine. So, when the Borgo Panigale brand unveiled its new MotoGP-derived Granturismo V4 in 2020, needless to say, it was a pretty big deal. In the years that have followed, the Italian marque has updated a growing number of its most popular models with its new 90° four-cylinder mill. And after bestowing its Diavel cruiser with the V4 in 2022, Ducati has now given the same treatment to the XDiavel, resulting in the new, heavily redesigned XDiavel V4.

The New Engine

Just like the Diavel and Multistrada models that have come before it, the latest model year XDiavel has recieved Ducati’s liquid-cooled 1,158cc 90° V4 Granturismo engine. Replacing the existing XDiavel 1260 S—and its 1,262cc twin-cylinder Testastretta lump—the new V4 also uses a twin-pulse firing order and a MotoGP-derived counterrotating crankshaft.

Power & Performance

The bike cranks out 168hp and 93ft-lbs of torque—from 10,750RPM and 7,500RPM, respectively—plus over 80% of its torque is available before 4,000RPM. Despite being a cruiser with forward controls and a low seat-height, the new XDiavel still offers the performance typical of a Ducati, with the V4-powered iteration being capable of clocking 0-60mph runs in around 3 seconds flat.

Technological Bells & Whistles

Multiple ride modes, power modes, traction control, wheelie control, and Ducati Brake Light all come as standard. Same goes for the XDiavel V4’s second-generation quick-shifter, launch control, backlit switchgear, all-LED lighting, the Ducati Multimedia System, and a connected 6.9” full-color TFT display. Turn-by-turn navigation is also available, albeit as an add-on.

Restyled Super-Cruiser

The already-award-winning XDiavel has received a pretty substantial facelift, resulting in sleeker lines and an overall more aggressive aesthetic. There’s also a 5.3-gallon tank with an updated design, a new headlight assembly, and an all-new exhaust setup consisting of a massive resonator paired with a four-unit silencer. Ducati is also offering a full race exhaust for the XDiavel V4 that adds an additional 11hp and 24.2lbs of lightness. The entire thing also rides on a novel wheel design, with the rear wheel put on full display thanks to Ducati’s signature use of a single-sided swing-arm.

Chassis & Running Gear

The entire motorcycle is constructed around an advanced aluminum monocoque chassis fitted with a fully-adjustable 50mm upsidedown fork and a single-sided swing-arm kitted with a mono-shock that’s also fully adjustable. Up front, there’s a 3.5” x 17” cast alloy wheel, while out back there’s a massive 8.0” x 17” rim—both of which come shod in ultra-sticky Pirelli Diablo Rosso III rubber. Bringing the machine to a stop are twin 330mm semi-floating radially-mounted discs paired with four-pot Brembo Stlyema monobloc, and a single 265mm rear disc with a twin-piston caliper—both of which come backed by the latest generation of cornering ABS.

Extended Service Intervals

In typical Ducati fashion, this new model also offers pretty convenient service intervals at 9,000 miles (or 24 months), and valve clearance checks only need to be performed every 37,000 miles. The bike also comes backed by a 24-month, unlimited mileage warranty.

Why We Love It

When Ducati first debuted the original XDiavel in 2016, the entire purpose of the model was to deliver a bonafide cruiser infused with traditional Ducati performance and style. Not only did the company knock it out of the park with the sport-cruiser’s first iteration, but it’s managed to take its hallmark DNA and make it even more present and noticeable with the 2025 model year. It’s sleeker, more modern, and overall better-looking. It’s quicker, more agile, and overall sportier—areas owed to both the new engine and the fact that this redesign shaves off around 13lbs compared to its non-V4 predecessor. At the end of the day, it’s still an unorthodox model for the brand, but the 2025 XDiavel is more of a Ducati than ever before—and if that’s not a compliment, I don’t know what is.
