Arctic Trucks’ 2025 Land Cruiser 250 Is Built for Extreme Adventuring

In production since 1951, the Land Cruiser is Toyota’s longest-running model and one of the oldest in continual production in the world. In 1985, the Japanese marque decided to create a “light-duty” version of the Land Cruiser, known as the Prado, which is still being made today.

Using its fifth-gen 250 Series to celebrate the Prado’s 40th anniversary, Toyota has tapped its former special vehicles division Arctic Trucks (which branched into its own independent brand in 2005) for a new ultra-rugged Land Cruiser revamp.

It Starts with the Tires

Guided by the spirit of its home in Iceland, Arctic Trucks has delivered its most imposing Land Cruiser build yet with the AT37. “From rocky technical trails to soft snow, sand, and everything in between, the AT37 achieves tracked vehicle capability with car-like drivability,” says the brand.

Given the 10-piece Arctic Trucks widebody package, this new re-engineered build is quite impressive, implementing new 37-inch rubber tires — which can be specified with either BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO3 or Mud-Terrain T/A KM3 — the AT37 is built for longevity and toughness both on- and off-road, in a myriad of conditions.

Inside the tires are Arctic Truck’s retro-inspired Heritage wheels, made of forged alloy for an optimum strength-to-weight ratio and featuring a dual-valve design that will aid you in monitoring tire pressure with a central tire inflation system.

Larger tires call for a reworking of the car’s frame, body, and drivetrain so that the increased ground clearance doesn’t compromise the Land Cruiser’s center of gravity. This means a wider track, extended wheelbase, and relocation of the rear axle, but while still maintaining a comfortable driving experience.

More Off-Road Improvements

To further help its off-road endeavors, Arctic Trucks and R53 teamed up for a bespoke two-way adjustable performance suspension system that increases the lift 40mm and gives the vehicle longer travel front coilovers, rear monotube dampers with hard chrome steel shafts, matched springs, and hydraulic bump stops. And thanks to R53’s OptiFlow tech, the driver can still achieve peak performance even during lulls in their adventures.

Visually, the AT37 is a sight to behold, in part thanks to the widebody flares that have become part of Arctic Trucks’ signature design language. They’ve also added new contoured mudguards, high-grip rubberized inserts, end caps, and an extruded aluminum profile.

On the inside, there’s a new gear selector and dash trims, along with premium interior mats and sill plates from the brand. Finally, this particular model has been given AT’s black and lava badging and detailing inside and out for a wholly idiosyncratic appearance. I personally find the steel blue paint extremely evocative and falls in line with Toyota’s use of unique colors in recent years.
