Back in 2020, Winnebago launched its Ekko series, putting its decades’ worth of mobile living to good use in a Class C RV, debuting with its own version of the Ford Transit. Today, the American brand tackles a new beast altogether in the Mercedes Sprinter, a model virtually synonymous with the camper van category.
With a 170-inch wheelbase (18” longer than the Ekko Transit), the Ekko Sprinter maximizes interior space, sleeping three on the inside on 80-inch twin beds, with up to five people max if you get the pop-top option. However, there are only four seat belts. Favoring customization and versatility, the lounge converts to four different modes, including a drive mode with passenger seating for two with a pull-up table, a lounge mode with a pair of side sofas with an adjustable table, a dining mode with a U-shaped dining space for five people, and a sleep mode for a side-to-side sleeping space with long windows on both sides. As a unique touch, the dry-wet bath features an innovative pivoting wall for a more flexible experience when showering or using the toilet.
Considering the all-wheel drive of the Mercedes Sprinter chassis and its all-terrain tires, the Ekko Sprinter is an excellent off-road getaway van for couples and families. Powered by a 2.0L turbo-diesel inline-four engine with 211hp and 332lb.ft of torque, the camper also boasts elevated ground clearance for more challenging approaches and departures. Other amenities include rooftop solar panels, a deeper gear garage, and a relatively large galley, which features a microwave convection oven, a large kitchen sink, a portable induction cooktop, deep-access drawers, and a 5.3cu.ft fridge/freezer unit. As of right now, two different interior decor options are available for your liking.
