From debuting the first three-point seatbelt in 1959 to developing the rear-facing child seat in ‘64 to introducing the first side airbag in ‘94, Volvo has always been at the forefront of cutting-edge technology, even before it was cachet to do so. Back in September, the Swedish marque got us excited with the announcement of its all-electric SUV, the EX90, a car that favors both efficiency and safety. Today, the vehicle was finally revealed.
Set to debut for the 2024 model year, the EX90 will be the all-electric successor to the brand’s mid-size luxury flagship SUV, the XC90, as Volvo heads towards a fully-electric lineup by 2030. Capable of 408hp, the twin electric motors are expected to charge in as few as 30 minutes and have a maximum range of around 372 miles.
The three-row, seven-seater also has a large trunk and a plethora of new safety features, including interior sensors that determine the state of the driver if he happens to be sleepy or distracted, and an occupant sensor that prevents you from leaving anybody behind. On the outside, the car will help reduce the chance of collisions by reacting to oncoming vehicles and braking if necessary.
Volvo isn’t currently accepting pre-orders on the EX90 just yet, but prices are expected to be around $80,000 depending on your configurations.
