Since first hitting the streets in 2014, the Macan has quickly become Porsche’s best-selling model, outshining even the marque’s legendary 911 range with well-over 800,000 units sold over the last decade. As the Stuttgart firm now prepares to move into the crossover’s tenth year in production, it’s opted to treat the ultra-popular compact SUV to what’s undoubtedly its most substantial update thus far, with the all-new, all-electric Macan EV.
Though it does away with the existing Macan’s 2.0-liter four-cylinder and 2.9-liter six-cylinder engines, the new all-electric version of the crossover SUV very much retains its petrol-fed predecessor’s combination of genuine practicality and spirited performance capabilities. Upon the launch of the electron and proton-powered Macan, the crossover is being offered in two trim levels, the base model Macan 4 Electric, and the top-of-the-line Macan Turbo Electric — the latter of which is obviously devoid of an actual turbocharger. Both models feature ultra-potent state-of-the-art powertrains with the ability to receive a 10% to 80% charge in as little as 21 minutes. The battery pack also offers 367 miles of range in the Turbo-spec and an even greater 380 miles of autonomy for the Macan 4 EV. All this performance comes backed by a suite of the latest, greatest, and most advanced safety and assistance tech.
Built atop the Audi-Porsche Premium Platform Electric architecture, the Macan 4 Electric comes outfitted with a 300-kW powertrain that generates up to 402hp and 479ft-lbs of torque, allowing it to do 0-60mph runs in 4.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 136mph. The Macan Turbo Electric, on the other hand, raises the performance bar in the EV crossover segment, with a 430-kW powertrain cranking out 630hp and 833ft-lbs of torque. These figures now only allow the so-called “Turbo” model to hit a top speed of 161mph and clock 0-60mph runs in just 3.1 seconds, but they also make it quicker than practically every version of the fabled Porsche 911, being faster than even the 911 GTS and 911 GT3 —bested only by the GT3 RS and Turbo variants. To go with its new cutting-edge EV powertrain, the all-electric Macan has also been bestowed with a markedly sleeker, redesigned body that takes some major design cues from the existing Taycan. Other highlights include nearly 17 cubic feet of rear luggage space, a more than 4,400-pound towing capacity, and an advanced air suspension setup that offers up to 8.8: of ground clearance.
Scheduled to begin deliveries in the second half of this year, the 2024 Porsche Macan Electric is available for order now, with pricing starting at $80,450 for the Macan 4 Electric and $106,950 for the Macan Turbo Electric.
