Since first breaking cover in late 2018, Porsche’s eighth and current generation of its iconic 911 — the 992 — has served as the basis of some truly incredible machines. Combining winning traits from some of the 992 platform’s most high-performance model variants, the Stuttgart marque has just debut an all-new 911 trim level that stands as the lightest 992-gen 911 ever made.
Based on the track-ready 911 GT3 RS platform though cloaked in bodywork from the Touring Package-equipped 911 GT3, the new 911 S/T benefits from a host of performance upgrades and weight saving measures. This includes extensive use of carbon fiber, as well as reduced insulation, a rear-axle steering delete, several lightened engine internals, a set of magnesium wheels, the Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake system, a Lithium-ion starter battery, and lightweight window glass — all of which come as standard. Collectively these modifications result in a curb weight of just 3,056lbs — a whole 70lbs lighter than the already very svelte 911 GT3 Touring.
At the heart of the new S/T model — whose monicker is a throwback to the first-ever performance-focused version of the 911 — is a modified version of the 4.0-liter mill found in the GT3 RS-spec 911. Good for 518hp and 342ft-lbs of torque, this naturally-aspirated power plant allows for 0-60mph runs in 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 186mph. The engine also comes mated to a short-ratio six-speed GT Sport manual transmission that features a redesigned lightweight clutch with a single-mass flywheel. The interior of the 911 S/T also features carbon fiber bucket seats trimmed in black leather with fabric inserts. Lastly, Porsche Design is also producing an all-titanium limited edition chronograph watch that’s available exclusively to buyers of the new S/T model.
Limited to only 1,963 units worldwide — a nod to the year of the 911’s original release — the 2024 Porsche 911 S/T has been priced starting from $290,000.
