It’s been two years since Land Rover debuted the fifth-gen Range Rover model, and now the British marque is finally fulfilling a promise it made back in 2021. Today, the company has teased its upcoming battery-powered version of the Range Rover and opened up the waitlist for when the vehicle does finally go on sale.

Currently undergoing a prototype testing stage, the Range Rover Electric has been shown, briefly, in close-up images, where you can see the paneled charging port, the “EV” symbol on the center rim, and the grill — a stylistic choice that merely covers the front. For fans of the standard Range Rover, this will largely retain the same design language. Unlike most other vehicle teasers from brands, Land Rover has given us a surprising amount of technical information. While still relatively brief, we do know that the SUV will be based on an 800V architecture with rapid charging capabilities. Few other driving specs have been given, but the company guarantees the performance of the V8 Range Rover and an off-road capability that’s become the nameplate’s calling card.

Up until now, we’ve gotten both mild hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions of the Range Rover, but a fully electric option will fill a spot in the marque’s range so it can compete with similar vehicles from the likes of Volvo and Hyundai. For the new model, Land Rover will file more patents than any other Range Rover that’s come before this. Among the car’s features is its ability to wade through 33.4” of water, and unique active noise-canceling tech while driving that will make this the quietest Range Rover yet.
This release will also be a major step to the forecasted 2039 deadline for Range Rover to be entirely net-zero for carbon emissions. No price point has been given, but expect it to exceed $113,000 of the standard Range Rover. Join the waitlist now on Land Rover’s website. Expect more information in the coming months.
