Acura Revives the ZDX Crossover as Its First-Ever EV

In 2009, Acura unveiled its ZDX crossover, intended to blend the worlds of luxury sedans and capable SUVs. With an unusual design language, a confused demographical target, and a high price tag, the ZDX didn’t sell well and only lasted until 2013 when the Honda subdivision decided to pull the plug. Now, a decade later, Acura has put the plug back in — literally. Arbitrarily enough, the ZDX nameplate has been tapped for a revival in the form of the marque’s very first electric vehicle (although Honda has one already with the Prologue).

Utilizing General Motors’ 102kWh Ultium battery, the new ZDX boasts an estimated 325 miles of range and 340hp. This standard A-Spec trim will have both all-wheel-drive and rear-wheel-drive options. Considered to be “the most powerful and best performing Acura SUV ever,” the sporty performance-tuned Type S trim boosts that horsepower up to a whopping 500, albeit with a decreased range of 288 miles. There’s also a fast-charging capability that can get an extra 81 miles after just 10 minutes of being plugged in.

Previewed on the Precision concept model from last year, the luxurious interior of the ZDX was designed by the Acura Design Studio in Los Angeles. Featuring built-in Google Android software integration, the vehicle will come with Google Maps and other helpful tools, with navigation available on both the dashboard gauge cluster screen and the center touchscreen. If you own an iPhone, the car can also support phone mirroring for you as well. Other interior features include an immersive Bang & Olufsen audio system and driver-assistive tech from AcuraWatch. And the Type S will feature AcuraWatch 360+, which includes a Hands-Free Cruise mode.
