In 2020, Polestar’s CEO Thomas Ingenlath tasked a special team within the company to create an ultra-high-performance Polestar 2-based concept car for his own personal use. Unofficially known simply as “The Beast,” this factory-built one-off would eventually become the basis for Swedish firm’s later Polestar 2 BST edition 270 that debuted in July of 2022. And now, after the success of the edition 270, Polestar has been prompted to return to the drawing board in order to deliver yet another limited run of limited edition Beast-spec Polestar 2 fastback EVs.
The latest addition to the Polestar Engineered portfolio, the BST edition 230 builds on the already impressive specs and performance capabilities of its edition 270 predecessor. Built atop the same upgraded frame as the 270, the BST edition 230 also retains the prior LE model’s lowered (now 4.7”) ride height, two-way adjustable race-spec DFV Öhlins BST-edition suspension setup, and four-piston Brembo brakes. Powering the BST edition 230 is a 350-kw (476-hp) dual-motor electric powertrain that cranks out over 500ft-lbs of torque, allowing the limited edition EV to rocket from 0-60mph in just 4.2 seconds. These improved power figures are owed to the model’s upgrade performance software, which also includes a launch control function.
Brimming with more than 150 upgrades over the standard Polestar 2 Long Range Dual Motor variant that it’s based on, the BST edition 230 boasts one of two different model-exclusive livery options in the form of the buyer’s choice of a Space or Nebula finish that are both complemented via gloss black mirror caps, a SmartZone front-end, color-matched lower sills and side skirts, and an optional matte stripe and race number on the hood. Riding on special blacked-out forged and diamond-cut 21” staggered alloy wheels shod in bespoke Pirelli P-Zero tires, the BST edition 230 also comes loaded with Polestar’s Pilot Pack, Performance Pack, and Plus Pack, all as standard. The interior of the car has also been trimmed in Charcoal-colored MicroSuede upholstery — a textile construction that’s partially derived from recycled Nubuck — and has also received yellow seatbelts and MicroSuede steering wheel inserts.
Limited to only 230 units worldwide, the 2023 Polestar BST edition 230 is expected to begin deliveries in Q3 of 2023. Pricing has yet to be revealed, though based on the fact that the 230 edition is even more high-performance (and even rarer) than its 270 edition predecessor, we anticipate it to exceed the 270’s roughly $75,000 price tag.
