Polestar Unleashes a Highly-Tuned, Track-Focused BST Edition

Back in 2020, Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath tasked the company’s designers and engineers with creating a high-performance one-of-one car based on the Polestar 2. Unofficially known as “The Beast,” this up-spec’d one-off EV – which was built as Ingenlath’s personal vehicle — was debuted at the 2021 Goodwood Festival of Speed, where it garnered enough attention to inspire Polestar to deliver a limited-edition model directly inspired by “The Beast.”

Christened the Polestar 2 BST edition 270, this limited production electric car is based on the firm’s existing Polestar 2 Long Range Dual Motor variant, though it has been bestowed with more than 160 track-focused upgrades. The special edition model’s chassis has been modified and enhanced, before being paired with a race-spec Öhlins BST-edition suspension setup with adjustable dampers that were engineered specifically for this version of the Polestar 2. The front suspension mounts are also connected via a custom-fitted aluminum strut bar. Affording markedly better handling and responsiveness, the new suspension also sees the car lowered by nearly an inch, bringing its ride height to 4.8”. Other upgraded componentry includes quad-pot Brembo brakes and unique 21” diamond-cut alloy BST edition wheels shod in Pirelli P Zero tires — both of which were custom-developed specifically for this LE model.

Under the proverbial hood, the BST edition 270 has received numerous software upgrades that allow the dual electric motor configuration to crank out 476hp and 502ft-lbs of torque. Drawing from a 78 kWh battery, the powertrain also benefits from a Performance launch control system that was tuned specifically for the BST edition 270, allowing for a 4.2-second 0-60mph time. Offered in Snow or Thunder colors with a glossy metallic or matte finish and an optional matte center stripe, the BST edition 270 also comes with Polestar’s Plus pack and Pilot pack as standard, and as such comes loaded with Driver awareness systems, adaptive cruise control, Pilot Assist, LED front fog lights, 360-degree cameras, Park Assist, a Harman Kardon sound system, a full-length panoramic roof, WeaveTech seats, wireless phone charging, and a heated steering wheel, seats, and wiper nozzles.

Limited to only 270 units worldwide, the 2023 Polestar 2 BST edition 270 is scheduled to enter production in mid-2022, with deliveries expected to commence in the final quarter of this year. Polestar has yet to reveal pricing, though prospective buyers can register their interest on the company’s website.
