Though it was first shown off in concept form back in 2012, it wasn’t until 2018 that the Urus was added to the Lamborghini lineup. And now, after half a decade in production, the famed Italian carmaker has now rolled out an even more capable and high-performance version of the “Super SUV” with the Lamborghini Urus S.

Kicked along by the same newly-upgraded twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 used in the new range-topping Performante-spec version of the SUV, the Urus S puts down 656.6hp and 627ft-lbs of torque. These horsepower and torque numbers ultimately allow for faster acceleration and an impressive maximum velocity with a 3.5 second 0-60mph time and a top speed of 190mph — making the Urus S one of the fastest SUVs currently available. The 90-degree V8 has also been mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission and paired with a 4WD system with an integrated front differential, a central Torsen differential, and an active torque-vectoring rear differential.

The Urus S is pieced together around an advanced integral lightweight aluminum chassis that’s been fitted with an equally cutting-edge adaptive air, multi-link suspension setup with electronically-controlled dampers. Also benefitting from a new facelift with sharper lines, the Urus S boasts novel front and rear bumper designs, an optional carbon roof and hood, and a lightly-revised interior. Tipping the scales at 4,843lbs at the curb, the S-spec Urus also gains a plethora of on and off-road drive modes, a retuned exhaust system culminating in a stainless steel twin pipe muffler arrangement, carbon-ceramic brakes and 21” wheels as standard, and a host of available exposed carbon fiber body pieces offered in a matte or gloss finish.
