The automobile world has been all atwitter since Jeep unveiled its first all-electric SUV model last month. A benchmark off-road brand that was once known for its “gas guzzlers” has adapted to modern times. Now Jeep is back in the headlines, adding four new additions to its recently reintroduced Wagoneer line at the New York International Auto Show.
The unveiling included extra-long versions of the base model, the Wagoneer L, and its higher-end counterpart, the Grand Wagoneer L. The cars, which are identical in size, are given an added third row and 15.8 cubic feet of cargo space behind that third row, all of which account for an additional 12 inches in length to the SUV (226.7 inches in total). 7 of those inches were added to the wheelbase when compared to the standard issue. The Wagoneers now accommodate larger parties and/or longer trips, with room now for up to eight passengers. The Wagoneer L also provides passengers in the second row plenty more legroom and over three feet of legroom for third-row passengers.
Jeep also added the blacked-out Carbide pack to the Wagoneer L line, featuring gloss black wheels, a panoramic tri-pane sunroof, black onyx grille rings, and diamond black door flares. The inside of the Carbide sports a new technical hydrographic dash trim, global black seats, and instrument-paneled doors. To go along with Stellantis’ (Jeep’s parent company) commitment to reducing its carbon footprint by 50% by 2030, Jeep has also announced its new inline six-cylinder Hurricane twin-turbo engines will be made available in its cars. These new 3.0L powerplants will deliver more horsepower and torque than the V8 engines of their competitors while putting out fewer emissions.
Jeep is not rebranding but evolving. We can expect more great things from the off-road company in upcoming years. The Wagoneer L and Grand Wagoneer L are expected to start rolling out sometime this summer.
