It’s a great time to be an outdoorsman. With the boom in the recreational vehicle and camper space continuing to grow, as well as the slew of electric and sustainable innovations taking place on a weekly basis, the time to own a camper van couldn’t be better. The current wave of electric RVs and campers may be new, but one of the first big companies to lean into sustainability was Scotland-based Campervan Co. Now, it is building on its already stout lineup of hybrid camper vans with an all-new Eco Evolution.
The Eco Evolution epitomizes the age-old adage “looks can be deceiving.” On the outside, it’s your standard Ford Transit Custom PHEV, but this hybridized camper van boasts stalwart solar panels and a bright and vibrant interior that is sure to impress. Powering the Eco Evolution is a Ford 1.0L EcoBoost engine as part of a plug-in hybrid setup, which on its own, boasts an impressive fuel economy of 91.7 mpg. Augmenting this stellar fuel efficiency is the additional 26-mile range that the Eco Evolution is capable of producing from pure electricity. While a 26-mile range may not seem to be something to ride home about on its own, it can make all the difference in the world when fuel is low.
What really excites us about the new Eco Evolution, however, is its power-packed solar panels. By harnessing the solar panels on its roof, as well as a set of fold-out panels, the Eco Evolution produces a jaw-dropping 1,000 watts of zero-emission power. These solar panels can charge as the Eco Evolution is driving and work in tandem with a 3,000-watt Leisure Battery that powers the modular kitchen, induction stovetop, and lighting system.
Inside the Eco Evolution, owners will find a fun and bright orange living space that offers seating for four, an immense amount of storage, and an elevating roof with a scenic canvas and sleeping space. The new Eco Evolution is currently in its prototype phase, however, Campervan Co. has opened preorders starting at $101,194
